Friday Drabble – The night the Lights went out.

The children could hardly contain their excitement. It wouldn’t be dark soon enough, dinner was gobbled up in seconds. Shouts of, “Can we go now?” echoed through the house. Their parents had promised this would be the night they would drive through Christmas Tree Lane. An annual tradition, neighborhoods ablaze and twinkling.

The last dinner dish was cleared, children stood in coats and mittens. The lights flickered. Then went out. Darkness enveloped the land. Neighbors poured out of houses.

Something was shining in the distance. A young boy was holding a candle, illuminating the manager scene of mother and child.
