Friday Drabble – Black Water

The cold spring gurgled along the steep shaft, it dropped into the darkness and found its way back to the bottom. The rapid flow cycled.  Soon the crystal liquid turned to black water.

Steam rose from the crevice, my pulse quickened in anticipation as the vapor expanded, then exhausted itself. Dawn had not yet waken from her slumber. It was moonless and the stars had blinked off. I pondered the day to come, ever watchful.

My mission was nearing completion and somehow I knew that it would be satisfying.  A  splash of  Caramel Macchiato, and now my cup runneth over.
